Getting Chemo? Eat More Ice Cream?

I wanted to thank Christi for posting a great tip on our Cancer Forum.  Christi’s mother was diagnosed with lung cancer that metastasized to her colon and brain when she was in her seventies.  As you can imagine, Christi’s mother had to undergo lots and lots of chemotherapy.  Christi shared one of her tips that helped her mother keep weight on her 94 pound frame.

“There are special tricks that need to be shared to help patients endure the process of chemotherapy. For example when all food tastes metallic, eat a spoonful of very rich ice cream (such as Blue Bell) before your meal. It coats the tongue and makes any food consumed after the ice cream less likely to taste like metal so the patient can continue to eat.”

I think this is a fantastic idea, and I am so grateful that Christi posted this in our cancer forum.  What tips have helped you or someone you know?  Just like Christi, your tip could be featured in our next blog entry. Post below or on the cancer forum and check back tomorrow to see if your tip is chosen.
